Mwingi Game Reserve is a great place to visit. It acts as a relaxing location for animals from neighbouring reserves. It is also a designated as a wilderness activity zone making it an absolute thrill to interact with nature. That being said, Mwingi offers its visitors amazing opportunities for fly camping, camel and horseback safaris.

For all the ecologists and dendrophiles would be in awe of the Mutomo Hill Plant Sanctuary. The Mutomo Hill Plant Sanctuary is a botanical garden located about 75 kilometers south of Kitui Town and it is definitely worth a visit! This sanctuary is home to over 100 species of indigenous trees and plants, many of which are believed to have medicinal value. If you’re looking for a place to go bird watching, camping, nature walking, or picnicking, the Mutomo Hill Plant Sanctuary is definitely the place for you!

Being that Kitui has so much to offer in terms of scenery and nature, it definitely boasts of the best campsites in the Eastern province. For instance, the Kaningo Campsite, situated in Mwingi, will have you tapping into your primal instinctive nature. Under the protection of game rangers around the clock, you get the beautiful experience of resting your head in the wild.

The quickest way to get from Nairobi to Kitui is to drive which costs $14 – $21 and takes 1h 54m. The most affordable means of transportation of getting to Kitui from Nairobi, is by road. There are buses that follow the routes either from Nairobi or Mombasa.
