EXPLORE MAKUENI
The county has a number of prominent features in including volcanic Chyullu hills which lie along the South West border of the county Mbooni hills in Mbooni sub county and Kilungu and Iuani hills in Kaiti sub county, Makongo forest and scenic view, Makuli Forest and Nzaui hill. The county is also home to the Ka Kindui falls as well as Kyanzizi falls.
MAKUENI ADVENTURES
Makueni is home to the infamous Chyulu Hills National Park. When driving through the National Park you will get to see a range of animals like as elephants, buffalos, giraffes as well as reptiles and insects. The main attraction of the park is the opportunity to explore through the Kisula caves. One can explore the third longest cave in the world, known as Upper Leviathan cave which is a maximum length of 11.15 km. The scenic hills also offer perfect opportunities for hiking, birdwatching adventures, and sightseeing of the spectacular sceneries of Makueni.
A visit to the Kivungoni Springs in Kibwezi, Makueni County is also a refreshing sight. This is a great place to capture the moments as well as enjoy nature.
The Umani Springs are filled with fresh water of which you can drink from. They are situated in the middle of the Kibwezi forest and around them is a small body of water, with which you can at times see crocodiles and turtles. As you walk round to the spring you can also be met with rock pythons, monkeys and elephants.
A game drive in either the Tsavo East or Tsavo West National parks is always an adventure to behold. One catch a glimpse of the big five in their habitat.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO IN MAKUENI
The Akamba Cultural Centre & Musuem is a place to learn about the Kamba tribe and traditions. One can get to see the traditional housing of which you can also book to stay and camp there. It has various relaxing spots by nice gazebos and tree shades. The centre also brews the traditional Kamba alcoholic drink, locally known as, kaluvu, which is made of fermented sugarcane; if you wish to learn how to brew it, you can participate in the making of the brew. It is a place where they have reserved the history and culture and the staff educate and inform guests while you are shown around.
The Sikh Temple Makindu is located along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, approximately 170 kilometers from Nairobi. It was built in 1926 by Sikhs who were working on the construction of the Kenya-Uganda railway. It is a holy shrine that also features a dining facility that provides free langar (food) to visitors. There is also the Makongo Valley that is 40 kilometers long valley is located along the Machakos-Makueni-Makindu road. It features panoramic viewpoints where you can have a glimpse of the beautiful sceneries and landscape that surround Makueni County.
Kenya’s first AIC Missionary Church is also a historic site worth visiting. Makueni County prides in hosting the first AIC Missionary church in Kenya, which was constructed in 1895 by Peter Cameron Scott, a Scottish missionary. The church is located in Kalamba village and is believed to have pioneered the emergence of Christianity in Kenya. There is also Peterson Camp Ruins which is located in Mtito Andei, off the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. It is a historical site that used to be former president Jomo Kenyatta’s resting place whenever he visited the lower parts of the former eastern province.

HOW TO GET AROUND
One can travel to Makueni County via road. Mombasa Road cuts through the county, giving it a vantage position in tourism. The SGR is another way to travel to the county. There is also one air strip. The easiest way to maneuver in the county is via private vehicle, preferably 4by4 because of the general terrain.
