It is Kenya’s capital City positioned between Somalia and Tanzania in Eastern Africa.  Nairobi’s vibrancy makes it one of Africa’s most influential cities in the world. It is a vital commercial and financial regional hub, home to the regional headquarters of various major international companies and organizations. A fun fact to know is that the first buildings began when the railway reached Nairobi, otherwise it was just a vast land where the only possibility was pastoralism. The city has Nairobi National Park, a large game reserve known for breeding endangered black rhinos and home to giraffes, zebras and lions. Next to it is a well-regarded elephant orphanage operated by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Nairobi is also often used as a jumping-off point for safari trips elsewhere in Kenya. It’s also got the highest number of malls in Kenya.

1. Nairobi National Park – The Nairobi National Park is within the city limits of Nairobi about 7 km south of Nairobi. It is the home of many animals ie buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, baboon, zebra, wildebeest and cheetah and 400 migratory and endemic bird species.
2. Silole Sanctuary- Just an hour’s drive from the city, the Silole Sanctuary is private land adjoining the Nairobi National Park, a rich landscape of rolling plains situated between the deep gorges of the Embakasi & Kiserian rivers. The Sanctuary is an ideal location to get away from the city without travelling distances & sacrificing time & expense.
3. Sheldrick Wildlife Trust- Rescue & rehab center for orphaned elephants, open to the public for viewing mud baths & feedings.
4. Kitengela Glass- Kitengela Glass, a long time neighbor to Nairobi National Park, is a hidden gem. Activities include camel riding, swimming, glass mosaic classes and felting.
5. Giraffe Centre- the Giraffe Centre is located in Lang’ata, approximately 20 kilometers from the Centre of Nairobi, Kenya. It was established in order to protect the vulnerable giraffe that is found only in the grasslands of East Africa.

10. Kenyatta International Conference Centre – Located at the heart of the central business district of Kenya’s Capital, KICC boasts of its proximity and easy accessibility to and from all major five-star hotels. the KICC rooftop is one of the coolest tourist spots to visit

 

Nairobi city is also majorly known for its vibrant night life. Music is everywhere and even nightclubs host a mix of DJ sets and guest bands. There are plenty of bars and discos in the city center but the best can be found in the suburbs, particularly in Westlands.

There are a number of great places to stay most being close to the Central Business District. These include Serena Hotel, Kempinski, and Tribe Hotel at Village Market, Sankara Hotel, Movenpick Hotel, and Fairmont Hotel among Others.

 

HOW TO GET AROUND

Taxis are one of the most popular ways for visitors to get around Nairobi as they are private and comfortable. Licensed taxis in Nairobi are marked with a yellow stripe. They can be found on most street corners in the city center but also tend to wait outside popular tourist attractions and international hotels.  With the newly built Express way, movement around Nairobi has been made easy and less traffic for those looking to move around the City.
