The region was created in March 2012 from part of Shinyanga region. In it lies the famous Serengeti and Ngorongoro National Parks. The region experiences moderate temperatures and has a characterized topography of flat, gently undulating plains. Situated with various ethnic groups such as the Sukuma, Nyiramba among many others.
